Invicta Dynamos end the year with a double header against the league leaders.
They head into a big weekend buoyed by last week’s success where they picked up maximum points with wins over Oxford City Stars and Cardiff Fire.
A 4-0 away win against Oxford followed a 7-2 victory over Cardiff in Gillingham. It was the first time this season they’d managed to pull off a win double in a single weekend.
Head coach Karl Lennon said: “We're very happy that we did that and we did it in quite convincing style as well, which is good, especially off the back of two weeks off, which is never easy.”
The Mos have been hindered this season with some key injuries. Regan O’Neil suffered a broken foot, Harrison Lillishas been missing since late September with a serious shoulder injury and Dan Scott has also missed games. There’s also been suspensions that have coincided with some big games.
Lennon said: “I certainly feel that if we had a little bit more fortune we probably would have got some better results, like we did last year against the top sides. That's just the nature of the beast at the moment.
“We can't feel sorry for ourselves, we just have to get on with it. I believe we have that capability within this team to do well against any side in this division.
“In my mind there's still a lot of positivity to take from how we've done so far, in spite of the absentees that we've had.”
Lillis is back training and is expected to be playing again when action resumes in January.
Last Saturday’s home win over Cardiff Fire saw the Mos lead 3-0 at the end of the first period with goals from Oliver Bronnimann, Richard Harris and Aaron Connolly.
Tom Soar got himself a hat-trick while Mads Thune also converted.
Another good performance on the Sunday led to a shutout win with Thune (2), Soar and Louis Colvin scoring.
The Dynamos face a bigger challenge this weekend, starting on Saturday when league leaders Slough Jets are the visitors. The two sides meet again 24 hours later at the Slough Ice Arena.
Lennon said: “They've been in inspired form really throughout the course of this year.
“We played very well against them last time at home and we were very depleted on that day.
“I still fancy us as a team to get results against sides like Slough. They're a fantastic outfit, a really good team, really good coach, with a lot of young talent.
“We just have to be really resolute and strong over the two days.
“I have every faith in the group that we can do it and what I liked about us last week in particular was the energy off the ice, as well as on it, especially on the Sunday.
“The energy and the atmosphere in the team seems to be quite positive, which is good.”
Lennon expects to make some adjustments to the roster in January and made some space in the ranks during their recent break in play as Vilius Krakauskas and Callum Burnett departed.
Incoming was Brandon Chard, back until the end of January while at home from university.
Lennon said: “(Vilius and Callum) were unfortunately two casualties of our poor performances at certain points in the season.
“We want to make a change or two here and there. If we do that, of course, we need to clear some space. That was the honest reality.
“I don't expect that we'll make any moves before Christmas. I don't think it's the right time to. I think January would be better.
“I never sign a player without the intention of them being successful. It's collective failure so far that's meant that we've had to make changes because if everything was going well, then we wouldn't make any.
“I know Brandon extremely well, having coached him for the last two seasons. He's back for his Christmas break and he's a welcome addition.
“He kind of bridges the gap a little bit for us in terms of when we might need to make more full-time moves.
“It helps us as well while we've got a couple of injuries and he's an infectious character on the ice, a good lad in the room as well too. I was very happy that he’s back with us and he did well last weekend too.”
