Jordan Graham was ‘magnificent’ on his return for Gillingham said boss Steve Evans.
The 25-year-old starred for the Gills in the second half, firing in cross after cross, but none of them were converted as Evans’ side were beaten 1-0 by Plymouth.
Graham, back after missing the last six league games with a hamstring injury, also hit the woodwork after lobbing the keeper but it proved to be a frustrating afternoon for the Gills.
Evans said: “He forced Ryan (Lowe, the Plymouth manager) into taking his best left-back off and he then destroyed the player who replaced him. He didn’t have a clue what was happening either.
“When Jordan Graham is in that kind of form you need your strikers to be on the end of them. Our problem was that the strikers didn’t have enough sharp movement to get on the end of them. Had they done that then we would have won convincingly.
“If you are a striker, you think when he gets the ball in the second half he is going to put the ball in the box, he was magnificent.”
The Gills boss wasn’t planning on keeping Graham out on the pitch for the entire match but such was his quality, he wasn’t going to argue when the player was happy to continue.
Evans said: “He wanted to stay on and as we had no midweek game we decided to take that risk, and he came through alright.”
Graham said it was a frustrating one for him, commenting on twitter.
He wrote: “That ones hard to take. Total dominance in the second half after a solid first half too. We’ll bounce back next Saturday for sure.
"On a positive I’m buzzing to be back out there helping the team and feeling super sharp too.”
