Chatham’s new recruit William Johnson-Cole is on a mission.
The 21-year-old winger, who completed a football scholarship at Crystal Palace as a teenager, has joined Chats from Faversham Town.
His first target, on a potential path back into the Football League, is to win a regular place in Kevin Horlock’s first team.
He said: “If I keep putting in the performances and doing what I do, then there is no reason why I can’t get into the first team and stay there.
“There isn’t long left of the season and I just need to be putting in the work-rate. I need to get my head down and work hard.
“I want to add goals to my game and once I start playing, people will see my name about. It’s down to me now.”
The Gravesend-based winger has had quite a journey in football to date. Starting out as a junior with Maidstone United, he spent four years at Crystal Palace between the ages of 14 and 18.
After unsuccessful trials with Birmingham, Stockport and Ebbsfleet he ended up at East Yorkshire side Goole Town.
A chance to then play in Sweden led to him signing professionally for Bodens BK.
A brief spell back in England led him to Faversham before he returned to Sweden to play for third division outfit Hedens IF.
He was back at Faversham this season before Chats put in a seven-day approach.
He will now be hoping to get the nod for Horlock ahead of Saturday's home game against East Grinstead Town.
