Midfielder Henry Woods has agreed a new deal at Gillingham.
The 20-year-old has signed for an additional year and he’s keen to make sure this year is a big one.
Woods was named in Gills’ squad for their first game of the season, at home against Southend United in the Carabao Cup.
After his new deal was announced, Woods said: “I’ve been here for a few years now and hopefully this season will be my best yet.
“I feel this is the year I need to try and break through.
“I’m fitter and I’m sharper. There is a lot of quality in the squad which I can hopefully learn from and improve as a player.”
Evans has been handed the number 23 shirt for the season but Evans says he still might ship the youngster out on loan for extra experience.
He said: “Henry has earned his contract extension. At present we are looking closely as to whether he goes out on loan or is capable of competing for a first-team place.
“He is improving every week so it is interesting.”
