Josh Wright is loving playing with the shackles off.
New boss Ady Pennock has given him licence to attack and he’s paid him back with six goals.
Two of those came on Saturday, in a 2-1 win over Southend, to take the midfielder’s goal tally for the season to nine.
“It is nice,” said Wright. “I am playing a new role and I am thriving off it.
“Family and friends have always asked me why I don’t score more but since turning professional, going back to Alan Pardew at Charlton, he put me in that sitting role and that has stayed with me. I did the same at Scunthorpe under Nigel Adkins.
“Since the gaffer (Ady Pennock) has come in, whatever formation we have played, he has said to me, ‘go and get in the box’. I have the legs and the fitness and I have been getting into the right areas.
“If you can get into the right areas and time it, it can drop and I am feeling confident."
Wright is even taking the penalties now.
The responsibility has previously been on the shoulders of Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Bradley Dack, but neither were on the pitch at the weekend.
Wright said: “My dad was the only person I told but before the game I fancied it if we got one. We got one and I got the ball straight away. I am on a streak of scoring and I felt confident."
It was his first penalty in the league, having previously scored spot-kicks in the Football League Trophy for Brentford and Barnet.
“I am loving it and enjoying it but the main thing is the three points,” he added.
“I don’t care who scores as long as we win."
