A firm that puts the community at the heart of its business is helping the KM Walk to School charity take a giant step forward.

Fitzpatrick, one of the largest, privately-owned civil engineering companies in the country has donated £12,000 to support the charity’s Walk on Wednesday and Walking Bug schemes.

Founded in 1921, Fitzpatrick prides itself in its commitment to staff and the community and strives to minimise its impact on the environment, so was only too willing to help the schemes.

WOW offers incentives for primary school children to walk into school every Wednesday, while Walking Bug rewards children who walk throughout the week. By taking part, children can boost their fitness and help reduce the number of cars on the road during the school-run period.

Business development director for Fizpatrick, Sally Butler, said: “Fitzpatrick is delighted to be supporting the WOW and Walking Bug schemes, which promote children’s health and wellbeing at the same time as improving the environment for everyone. As a firm we are committed to supporting good causes that benefit the whole community and the KM walk to school schemes are excellent examples of this.

“Fitzpatrick is in partnership with Medway Council, maintaining and upgrading the road and footpath network. Through the work that we do, we help to create a safe and pleasant route to school for these children.”

The £12,000 cheque will keep WOW and Walking Bug in the peak of health for another school year and it was gratefully accepted by project chairman Simon Dolby, who said: “Fitzpatrick are already proving to be an enthusiastic supporter of Wow and Bug. Schools involved in these initiatives should expect an exciting year ahead thanks to their backing.

The cheque was presented to the charity on at the firm’s Medway offices in Salt Lane, Cliffe.
