Accountants, it goes without saying, like numbers – but Kent firm McCabe Ford Williams has branched out into words too with its support of the Kent Literacy Awards.
The annual awards are open to entries from teachers, school staff and volunteers who have been involved in a project to encourage reading, writing, speaking or listening – and the winning schemes will be featured in a booklet sent to every school in the county, so their success can inspire others.
“It’s just a great idea - schools can share a platform for ideas and what works with children,” said Jonathan Fullarton, an associate in McCabe Ford Williams’ Dover office.
“It gets children to enhance their communication skills, which is really important in business,” he added.
The awards are open to primary and secondary schools in Kent and Medway, and the categories are wide enough to encompass almost any type of literacy work - anything from a book week or a speaking competition to a project using technology or social media to improve literacy.
For schools which have joined the KM Charity Team’s reading reward scheme, Buster’s Book Club, there are some extra categories relating to the scheme.
Entries must be in by noon on Friday, April 27. The winners will be invited to a ceremony at the Hempstead House Hotel in Sittingbourne at the end of June.
The Kent Literacy Awards are supported by Kent County Council, Medway Council, KM Facilities Management Group, Reed Education, Specsavers, Tribeca Technology Group, Beanstalk, Golding Vision (part of Golding Homes), Whitefriars, McCabe Ford Williams, Orbit, London Borough of Bexley, and DDS Environmental.
