Pupils from Sevenoaks were delighted to become the first recipients of a new award celebrating the best use of green travel for the school run.
Riverhead Infants is the first school to receive the Mini Babybel Best Walking Bus award for the Sevenoaks district.
Simon Dolby, KM Charity Team Chief Executive, said Riverhead Walking Bus deserved the accolade for its tremendous success with pupils, teachers and parents.
Mr Dolby said: "Walking buses offer children a healthy start to the day and reduce traffic congestion at the school gates. We’d like to thank Babybel for giving us this opportunity to reward Riverhead’s friendly and well organised walking bus scheme.”
Kirsty Payne, walking bus coordinator for the school, said: “We are delighted to win the Babybel Best Walking Bus award for our two small but perfectly formed walking buses, and we are very grateful for the support we have always received from the KM Group.
“The children on the Monday bus really enjoy spending the walk catching up with each other after the weekend, and the children on the Friday bus are from different year groups, so now have friends outside their year.”
Parents interested in joining the Riverhead Walking Bus scheme can contact the school office or email kirstypayne@btinternet.com.
KM Walking Bus is a KCC-led initiative and supported by Mini Babybel, Countrystyle Recycling, Specsavers, Chaucer Foundation, Three R’s Teacher Recruitment, Southern Water, Orbit South, Golding Homes and Eurostar.
