Bucks Fizz star Cheryl Baker will be helping people make their minds up at the Medway heat of the KM Big Charity Quiz.
The singer and TV presenter will be guest of honour at the wine and wisdom style event in aid of Abigail’s Footsteps and the children’s road safety service of the KM Charity Team.
Cheryl is vice-president of Abigail’s Footsteps, the Medway Messenger newspaper's charity of the year, which supports parents who have lost a child at birth.
The charity was set up in 2010 by Rochester couple Jo and David Ward following the death of their daughter Abigail who was stillborn at 41 weeks and Cheryl has supported them from the start. She regularly appears at events and helps to raise funds and awareness.
At the Big Quiz she will be helping quizmaster Simon Dolby, from the KM charity team, by reading a round of questions.
Cheryl said: “I have supported Abigail’s Footsteps from the very beginning when David wrote to me. My heart was torn in two when I read David and Jo’s story, I really wanted to help them.
“I have continued to support them because they work tirelessly and have made great progress nationwide. I will always support them.”
She added: “I’m looking forward to the Medway Big Quiz. I love a quiz but I’m not very good at them.”
Simon said: “I am absolutely delighted Cheryl has agreed to help co-host the event. Cheryl will be reading out the questions for the entertainment round – and of course we will add in her hit Making Your Mind Up as part of the music played when quiz-goers arrive at the venue.
“Adding a touch of celebrity to such a major charity event will make the KM Big Charity Quiz extra special.”
Other rounds in the quiz will include current affairs, sport and games, history and literature, science and nature and a round of questions put forward by KM readers.
The Medway Big Quiz takes place at St George’s Hotel, New Road, Chatham, on Friday, March 27. Doors open at 6.20pm and the event starts at 7pm.
A table for eight people, including a glass of wine or soft drink and a ploughman’s meal, costs £65. A charity bar will be provided by Shepherd Neame brewery.
The leading teams will be invited to take part in the Kent final later this year, going head to head against other winners from heats around the county.
