Inflate your tyres, grease your chain, and saddle up for the KM Big Bike Ride this April.
The charity fundraiser is staged at Betteshanger Park, near Deal on Sunday, April 24 and a key partner is urging for competitors to take part and break previous records.
Melanie Rogers of Thanet based wind farm operator Vattenfall, said: “Last year’s ride saw some 450 riders ascend on Betteshanger, raising a huge £20,000 for good causes. We think we can go even bigger and better this year, so ensure your secure your place and help us set new records!”
Offering riders the choice of a 50K and 100K cycle, there is something for all abilities and requirements.
The 50K route provides more leisurely participants with pleasant countryside views, passing through Sandwich, Preston and Bramling, whilst the Locks of Sandwich Cycles-supported 100K cycle will thrill sportive riders as they span the county’s coastline, heading through Ramsgate, Margate and Reculver.
All riders will receive a goody bag and limited edition medal upon return. Refuelling stations will be located throughout both rides for those requiring additional drink and sustenance.
Riders have the option to raise money for their favourite charities, or to support foundations involved with the ride such as Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance. Alternatively, the event can be entered by those simply searching for an action-packed day out.
Lisa Craig, events manager at the KM Charity Team which organises the event, said: “Last year’s ride set a high bar for both participation and money raised, but like Vattenfall, we believe this bar can be raised and we are excited and hopeful to see a huge turn out!”
