Celebrity Masterchef star Cheryl Baker provided a storytime surprise to one lucky school after they won a Buster’s Book Club challenge day.
Reading to the whole school at a special assembly, pupils were delighted to have the television personality in attendance.
Willow Class of West Borough Primary School, Maidstone claimed the reward for biggest improvement with their reading, after competing against schools in the county.
More than 60,000 children at 250 primary schools were involved in the challenge day and competed to complete the most green journeys to school or extra reading on Wednesday, February 1.
Cheryl Baker, herself a resident of Kent, said: ”I’ve had a wonderful time at West Borough Primary School and I really encourage all children to read, and if you read really well maybe I’ll come and visit your school”
Simon Dolby, chief executive at the KM Charity Team which organises KM Walk to School and Buster’s Book Club schemes, said: “Well done to Willow class on their challenge win. The children have worked really hard with their reading, and we think Cheryl Baker’s visit is a great way to say thank you. Seeing so many delighted faces was the cherry on top.”
