Care home raises almost £500

An Island care home has raised money for charity by selling the belongings of a former resident.

The Island Residential Home in Leysdown Road, Leysdown, presented Preston Skreens children’s respite centre, with a cheque for £475.

They raised the money by selling toys and ornaments which belonged to former resident Gordon Mansfield.

Mr Mansfield lived on Sheppey for many years and was a resident at the home for five years.

He was a bus driver and used to visit the children at Preston Skreens, in Minster, and he had decided he would leave everything to the children when he passed away.

Mr Mansfield died in February after a long illness.

Owner of the residential home, Kuldish Pawar, said: “We were very pleased with how much we raised.

“Mr Mansfield was very insistent on it going to [Preston Skreens].

“It was his wish coming true, even though he wasn’t around to see it.”
