Initiatives that develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in pupils will be showcased at the Kent Literacy Awards.
Nominations are now being accepted for these important annual awards to celebrate best practice in the classroom.
To make a nomination, complete the simple online form here and describe the initiatives your school is using to support literacy. There are awards for activities including the best home reading initiative, most engaging writing topic, most effective use of IT to develop listening skills and the best use of art or drama.
Nominations are accepted from parents, pupils, teaching, support staff and management at primary and secondary schools. An awards celebration will be held at Hempstead House Hotel, Sittingbourne in June, after which a summary of all of the winning submissions will be published and circulated to every school in Kent, Medway and Bexley to promote best practice.
Simon Dolby from the KM Charity Team, the organisation staging the Kent Literacy Awards, said: “Providing the next generation with literacy skills is critical to their future employment opportunities. The best themes, schemes and strategies used in schools to promote and excite children with reading, writing, speaking and listening skills should be celebrated and their success passed to every school in the county – that is what the Kent Literacy Awards will do.”
Organisations supporting the Kent Literacy Awards include Kent County Council, Medway Council, Orbit South, Beanstalk, Clarkson Wright and Jakes Ltd, Golding Vision (part of Golding Homes), Three R’s Teacher Recruitment, Canterbury Tales, Social Enterprise Kent, Specsavers, Mini Babybel, Leeds Castle and Southern Educational Leadership Trust.
Submit your nomination before the closing date of April 28.
