Sixty pairs of golfers from across the county pitched and putted their way to success at a charity fundraiser last week.
The inaugural KM Charity Golf Challenge raised an impressive £6,000 for the leading Kent education charity the KM Charity Team which works with 50,000 families at 200 primary schools across the region, improving literacy development and children’s road safety.
Staged at Boughton Golf Club, near Faversham on Friday, May 20, the event provided players with eighteen holes of golf as well as a selection of competitions and challenges in skill areas such as putting, nearest to pin, and hole in one.
Key partners Holiday Extras were one of the many corporate guests who took their place on the green. Matthew Paxton of Holiday Extras, said: “We are delighted to have supported this event. The golf day was brilliantly organised and provided the perfect setting for networking with clients and customers, plus the weather has been wonderful!”
Sean Connor of Gallaghers Aggregates claimed whilst his short game was mediocre, his long game was excellent. He said: “We have had a fantastic day and really enjoyed being an active part of this event. Whilst our golf has been average at best, the company of our customers and fellow co-workers has been a joy.”
A number of players showcased their dominance on the course during the day. Malcolm Sutton of Ovenden, Aylesham, near Canterbury and Paul Bradley of Tony Kirwan Contractors, Ashford claimed the Pairs Competition prize, whilst Tony Hughes of LKM Recycling, Sittingbourne was honoured with the Nearest to Pin award.
Attendees also enjoyed breakfast upon arrival and a two-course meal following play, as well as a raffle and auction.
Dominic Comins, events manager at the KM Charity Team which staged the fundraiser, said: “Our very first golf day was a tremendous success. Accumulating £6,000 for school children across Kent, Medway and Bexley, we considerably beat our target. We have also received much positive feedback from our players and guests which is the cherry on top of a excellent day of sport. We look forward to teeing off in 2017 and are looking for businesses to support us, so please do get in contact if your company is interested.”
Key partners of the Holiday Extras-partnered KM Charity Golf Challenge include Gallagher Group, Qube Recruitment, KM Security Solutions, Aston Scott Insurance Brokers, Veetee Rice LTD, Lipscomb Volvo, City Awards, Invicta Health CIC and MHA MacIntyre Hudson.
