This year’s Kentish Express Big Quiz went all the way down to the wire with sudden death question.

The Bonny Cravat team from Woodchurch retained their crown for a second year after pipping rivals Unicorn, from Canterbury, in the tie-break. Both teams scored 71 out of a possible 80.

Forty-three teams took part in the event, which raised £4,190 – down on last year, but a very good result considering the credit crunch and impending recession.

Competitors received a free glass of wine courtesy of Threshers of Hythe and Gallo vineyards, and Debenhams provided a cosmetics goodie bag and discount voucher to the Ashford store to all the women.

Kevin Howell, of Threshers, and Clare Sykes, of Debenhams, presented the winners’ trophy to the Bonny Cravat.

Staff from Berry Recruitment acted as waitresses for the night and Body Shop at Home staff acted as runners.

Louise Hopkins, from Shepherd Neame, and her volunteers ran the Spitfire Charity Bar, which raised £806, and business studies and IT teacher Jens Angrabeit, from the Towers School, was joined by students Alex Nolan and Andrew Castle on the scorers' table.

Organisations backing the night included main sponsor County Square shopping mall, P&O Ferries, Debenhams of Ashford, Move-it and Asda at Folkestone.
