The 21st anniversary KM Charity Walk gets underway next month, with many people from across the county getting ready to strap up their walking boots.
One couple preparing to stroll on Sunday, June 26 are the Bones of Whitehall Bridge Road, Canterbury.
Retired husband Michael and wife Gillian have been involved with the fundraiser since it was staged at Port Lympne Reserve, Hythe back in 2007.
Mr Bone, 70, said: “In 1998 I underwent major open heart surgery so I try to keep my fitness levels up. My wife and I both enjoy walking and the Charity Walk provides great exercise for the body and mind walking through the beautiful Kent countryside. This is the main reason we undertake the walk, although of course it is greatly important to raise funds for charitable causes.”
The family challenge day provides ramblers the option of both five and 10 mile treks. Starting and concluding at Maidstone’s Grade II Georgian mansion Mote House, walkers will pass through much charming Kentish countryside as well as Leeds Castle; also known as ‘the loveliest castle in the world’.
All participants will be presented with a limited edition medal upon return, as well as garden party complete with live music and a barbecue.
Sophie Wallace, events manager at the KM Charity Team which organises the event, said: “The Charity Walk has provided people across Kent, Medway and Bexley with a wholesome and enjoyable activity day for over 20 years. Last year we raised a staggering £20,000 and our plan is to top this figure come June.”
Booking is charged at £11.50 per adult and children under 16 go free. Walkers are encouraged to gain sponsorship for their trek and can fundraise for their favourite charitable causes, or ones directly liked with the event.
The KM Charity Walk is supported by Specsavers, Gullands Solicitors, Benenden Hospital, and Cotswold Outdoor.
