A nail-biting finish to the Maidstone heat of the KM Big Charity Quiz saw just three points separate the top four teams.

In the end Medway Mail and Female, the winners of the 2015 event, triumphed by just one point. In equal second were Moomins and Just Sew and So’s, with Stargating across the Quizziverse a further two points back.

All four teams earned their place in the county final and will take on the top teams from KM Big Charity Quiz heats staged in Ashford, Canterbury and Medway earlier this year.

Around £7,000 is expected to be raised for good causes from the event with a number of educational initiatives benefiting including road safety, literacy and walk to school schemes. The Kent Messenger Charity of the Year – Leybourne Grange Riding Centre for the Disabled – will also be on e of the beneficiaries.

Helping to ensure the mammoth wine and wisdom evening was a success a small army of volunteers and supportive businesses had been enlisted with Kent brewer Shepherd Neame donating the beverages for the charity bar and Barclays bank staff manning the bar and using its pound for pound scheme to boost the charity pot.

Extra support was provided by Office Angels, Reynolds Retreat Spa at Borough Green, Hornby Visitor Centre in Thanet, Eurostar, Independent Music Productions, and Pizza Hut Delivery Maidstone. Accountants Wilkins Kennedy were the headline sponsor of the event and brought three teams of staff to join in the fun.

Quiz master Simon Dolby said: “The scores of teams taking part in the event were very impressive. I particularly want to thank Barclays staff, Shepherd Neame and Wilkins Kennedy for their support in helping to ensure the event was such a success.”
