An educational media publication is trumpeting nominations for an awards scheme which celebrates innovative reading practices.
School News Group, based in Canterbury, provides the county’s parents with positive information about schooling and education, is urging readers to get involved and support the Kent Literacy Awards.
Claire Turner, editor of School News Group, said: “We are thrilled to be supporting such a worthwhile initiative. The awards are all about showcasing best practice of literacy progression and excellence throughout Kent’s schools. We hope people take the time to nominate.”
She added: “Literacy is the foundation of our publication, and indeed the foundation of learning in primary and secondary schooling.”
Nominations are now officially open for the awards and are accepted from support staff, pupils, management and fellow teachers across schools in Kent, Medway and Bexley.
A large variety of categories are available including Best Circle Time, Best School Library, Most effective use of IT to enhance writing, and Best use of Art and Poetry.
Simon Dolby, chief executive of the KM Charity Team which organises the awards, said: “Those providing children with good reading, writing, listening and speaking skills are preparing them for a brighter, happier future. The Kent Literacy Awards are the perfect opportunity to say thank you for showing such commitment to the next generation.”
The awards are hosted at Sittingbourne’s Hempstead House Hotel in June and School News Group will join the judging panel alongside fellow ambassadors.
