Staff have been made redundant and services cut at a centre for disabled children – the latest victims of the credit crunch.

The news of the financial problems at the Medway-based Cerebral Palsy Care Centre came on the same day the death was announced of Tory leader David Cameron’s son Ivan, aged six.

Ivan suffered from cerebral palsy and epilepsy.

Fund-raising manager Linda Phillips said: “As a charity, we are making an appeal to help us save the services that give disabled children and adults the better quality of life they deserve.

“We are sending out an SOS. Financial times are hard for everyone, but we desperately need help to keep the centre going.”

The charity’s cash difficulties emerged as the centre announced it was changing its name to CPC Kent.

The day of the re-launch was emotional for all the staff and parents at the centre, following the death of Mr Cameron’s son. Mr Cameron visited Medway last month.
