A NEW interactive website has been launched by Demelza House - the children’s hospice at Bobbing, near Sittingbourne. “This is an exciting development and we hope the site will be of enormous benefit to our supporters and those interested in finding out more about us,” said head of fund-raising, Alexa Kersting-Woods.

“We will be keeping visitors to the site updated about the work of Demelza House, with interesting news and information about events. It is very easy and quick to donate through the site in our 'Can I Help?' section, too.” Just £20 helps towards an afternoon’s care for a child and their family.

Demelza House - opened four years ago after a massive county-wide fund-raising effort - is unique. It is the only children's hospice looking after families from Kent, South London and East Sussex. Alexa said: “We are currently looking after more than 300 families. As we do not receive any statutory income we rely on public generosity to survive.”

Demelza House needs to raise £1.6 million per year to continue its work with children and their families in need of hospice and bereavement care. Some 400-plus volunteers dedicate their spare time. “We particularly need volunteers for our new Hythe shop,” said Alexa.

The hospice also needs volunteer gardeners, cooks, cleaners, people with office skills and help with fund-raising events. Anyone interested in helping either at the hospice, in one of its shops or by fundraising should contact Lynne Clarke on 01795 845218
