THE plight of a disabled pensioner robbed of money she had saved for charity has prompted dozens of individuals and firms to offer help.
They responded after reading in the Kentish Gazette newspaper how Bunny Kimbell's bag had been snatched from her walking frame as she shopped in Woolworths in Canterbury city centre.
The bag contained more than £200 which the 67-year-old had just drawn out of the Post Office and was planning to take to a children's hospice in Bucharest. The theft left her in tears and distraught.
But she vowed to scrape some more money together to take gifts to the Romanian 'sewer' orphans who she has been sending Christmas presents to for years.
Now readers of the Kentish Gazette have rallied to make sure she does not go empty-handed. One, who wanted to remain anonymous, has sent her a cheque for £500.
Mrs Kimbell, of Headcorn Drive, Canterbury, said: "When I go to the hospice in Bucharest on March 28 I will now have more than I had ever dreamed of to take to the orphans."
