There’s still time for wannabe young chefs to show off their culinary skills and have the chance to win amazing prizes.
School children aged five to 18 years are invited to enter KM Kent Cooks before the November 4 deadline.
Jessica Pope, 12, and Daniel Martins, 15, from North School are among a number of youngsters taking up the cookery challenge. Last week they prepared their dishes for the competition watched by pupils at the school.
To enter, youngsters must submit photographs of their signature dishes along with descriptions of cooking method to the Kent Cooks website.
Recipes will be judged based on their creativity, presentation, and the student’s awareness of healthy living and locally sourced ingredients.
Event organiser Julia Williamson from Kent Cooks said: “The aim is to develop the confidence and abilities of young people to prepare meals to a fixed budget, as well as knowledge of healthy options and Kentish produce.”
She added: “This year we’ve introduced a fantastic cash prize so the winners will receive a goody bag, a Masterchef cook book and a share of £500.”
Finalists from the primary, secondary and family categories will be invited to attend the live cook-off on Thursday, November 27 when category winners and the overall KM Kent Cooks champion will be announced.
Kent Cooks is supported by Countrystyle, Mini Babybel, Three R’s Teacher Recruitment, DFDS Seaways, Southern Water, Kent Cookery School, Orbit South, Brakes, Golding Homes, VooServers, Carefree Communications and Licensing Consultancy Services.
The closing date for entries is Tuesday, November 4. Find out more at www.kentcooks.co.uk.
