If you needed proof that drinking is bad for you, listen to Phillip Goddard who is recovering from a drunken dare.
One minute he was imbibing with friends – the next there was a website up and running about his pledge to ski down a mountain wearing just a thong.
The 42-year-old estate agent from Sturry performed the feat in aid of Cancer Research UK.
“It was November 8 when in a drunken state I suggested skiing down a mountain in a thong for charity,” he said. “I remember the date because by the 10th there was a website up and running all about it.
“It’s proof that drinking is bad for you!”
The director of Regal Estate and Letting Agents in Castle Street, Canterbury, travelled to the Alpine ski resort of Val d’Isere to carry out the 36-second challenge.
“It was -8 degrees but with the windchill factor it felt -14,” said Mr Goddard, who lives in Sturry Hill with wife Sarah and two-year-old daughter Amelia.
“I was quite lucky as the wind got worse. And there was a bit of a gathering, it was good fun.”
Mr Goddardd raised £700 with money still coming in. His sister Susanne, 50, has recently received treatment for ovarian cancer, and their mother Gisela had the same form of the disease many years ago.
For his next fund-raising venture, he is considering playing the first hole of a round of golf in a thong while in holiday in Florida in June.
