As the deadline nears for the Thanet Community Awards, the Extra is beginning to look ahead to working with the winner of its prize.

The awards are open to all good causes and individual volunteers making a difference to the community in Thanet.

They are organised by the KM Charity Team in association with Westwood Cross, London Array and the Thanet Extra.

The shopping centre, the wind farm and the Extra will each present a cheque to a charity of their choice for £2,000, and the paper will also champion its winner – providing invaluable media support over a 12-month period.

Extra editor Joe Walker says he is looking forward to working with the paper’s chosen charity.

“There are so many individuals and good causes working in Thanet to make a real difference to the community, so it’s going to be a really difficult task choosing a single winner," he said.

"But the selection process will be a real labour of love.

"It's a real joy that we're able to use the paper to work with and help individuals and organisations who are working to improve the lives of people in Thanet.

Charities and individuals should not to be put off by fears about a difficult or time-consuming application process, with entries able to be submitted in minutes,

The deadline is midday on November 27.

Any charity or good cause, working in any field and of any size can apply, from a strictly neighbourhood organisation or the local branch of a high-profile national charity.

Nominations can be submitted at thanetcommunityawards.co.uk. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in January.

In addition to the money for the three main award winners, another £4,000 will be shared among three runner-up charities and three individual volunteer winners.
