One of Kent’s oldest cycle shops is looking forward to providing technical support to participants in the KM Big Bike Ride.

Whitstable shop Herberts Cycles will be on hand to provide assistance before and during the ride, which takes place on Sunday, April 28.

And, with demand for places expected to be high, would-be riders are urged to register for the event as soon as possible.

The ride provides a choice between 50K and 100K routes, with both departing from Betteshanger Park near Deal.

Herberts owner Keith Spencer said he was “proud” to be supporting the event, adding: “As experienced riders, we have vetted these great routes.”

Riders can take part just for fun, or to raise money for their favourite good causes. 70 per cent of sponsorship money will go to the participants’ chosen charities, with the rest helping to fund the KMY Charity Team’s child road safety work in Kent.

And any individual raising £200 or more for charity will go into a draw to win a pair of Eurostar tickets.

Mr Spencer, whose shop is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, said: “Get on your bike and join us for a spectacular ride around the Kent coast.

“Whether you’re new to cycling or training for a cycling challenge, the KM Big Bike Ride has something for you.”

Big Bike Ride coordinator Hannah Hawksworth said: “It’s so good to have Herberts on board providing technical assistance to riders, and it’s great that they’ve given their seal of approval to the routes.

“Given the business’s decades of experience, there can’t be many people in Kent with more knowledge about cycling.

“And I would urge anybody interested in taking part to book their place on the ride as soon as possible.”

Apart from Herberts, the ride is supported by Vattenfall, Benenden Hospital Trust and SE Medical.

Participants will benefit from electronic chip timing, mid-ride refreshments, and a sportive photograph taken during the event.

Booking for the ride costs £30 per person, but there is a £5 discount for female cyclists who use the discount code ThisGirlCan.
