A fearless charity employee is looking forward to adding Buster’s Firewalk to his long list of adrenaline-fuelled escapades.
Ben Brogdan-Hodgson is doing the firewalk along with colleagues Ollie Frank and Aly White, to raise money for the charity they work for Imago Community.
The 24-year-old, who lives in Tunbridge Wells, said: “I’ve done lots of extreme things before, such as skydiving, bungee jumping, deep caving and swimming with great white sharks in South Africa.”
He added that he thought it was “probably safe to say that the firewalk will not be as scary” as swimming with great white sharks.
The event takes place at Kent cricket club’s St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury on November 5, and booking is still open at www.kmcharityteam.co.uk/booking.
Ben’s colleague, 18-year-old Ollie Frank from Tonbridge, said: “I’m interested in trying new and innovative activities that test my self-discipline. This will help me conquer feared challenges to add to my life experiences.
“It’s completely in my comfort zone – I hope.”
Ben, Ollie and Aly are hoping to raise £200 each for Imago. Based in Tunbridge Wells, the charity aims to promote social action and empower communities and individuals across the South-East.
Fiona Cottingham, project development manager at the charity, said: “Imago are delighted that three of our staff have bravely signed up to take on the firewalk this November.
“The trio work to support young people with disabilities via the Imago Short Breaks service and have all seen first-hand the difference it makes, so they wanted to go the extra distance and raise funds too.
“We have sponsorship forms up in the office, and have all been busy raising funds.
“It is great to be able to join in with other local charities and good causes to take part in the event and celebrate the great works of all the fundraisers taking part.”
The firewalk is organised by the KM Charity Team, with the money raised going towards good causes of participants’ choice and the team’s child-literacy scheme Buster’s Book Club.
It will be managed by specialist UK Firewalk, whose founder former firewalk world record holder Scott Bell will train participants before they walk across coals with a temperature above 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
Participants must be 18 or above, and are asked to aim to raise at least £100 in sponsorship. Anyone who individually raises more than £200 will be entered into a draw to win a luxury spa day for two.
The entry cost is £25 per person, which also enables fundraisers to enjoy the fireworks display that follows it for free. Supporters can purchase tickets at a discounted rate to watch the fireworks and the firewalk.
