Flipping good fun planned for traditional pancake race

THE annual pancake race at Westgate is celebrating its 27th anniversary in style this year.

From 10.30am to 11.15am tomorrow (Tuesday March 24) there will be races for children, adults and disabled competitors in Station Road as the shoppers and passers-by gather to cheer them on.

Westgate and Birchington Rotary Club members are heavily involved and help marshal the event and the races, while Westgate delicatessen owner Angelo Dondi it at the heart of the celebrations and fund raising.

On Shrove Tuesday he will cook and flip around 1,000 pancakes at his Station Road business from 10am to 2pm, with donations for each tasty treat going towards Demelza House children's hospice and Stone Gap school at Broadstairs.

Angelo said: “We always have a lot of fun on pancake day and I hope we can attract lots of people to enjoy the races, the food and help us raise money for two very worthwhile causes.”
