A leading transport company is celebrating a decade of support for the county's walk to school campaign.
Eurostar has announced that it will again provide a mix of grant funding and donated tickets to support the KM Charity Team.
The walk to school campaign works with 150 primary schools to encourage children and their parents to embrace the benefits of ditching the car in favour of green alternatives. Last academic year more than 270,000 school run car journeys were removed from Kent roads.
Mary Walsh, Eurostar’s Director of Communications said: “We have been a keen supporter of KM Walk to School for the best part of a decade and with the 10 anniversary fast approaching we continue to be impressed with the commitment of all the schools involved. This initiative, which promotes the health benefits of walking to school and takes quarter of a million car journeys off Kent’s congested roads, sits at the heart of our Community and Environment programme.”
The educational charity aims to offer the Eurostar tickets as rewards for the top fundraiser taking part in the KM Abseil Challenge in March and as prizes for a number of educational initiatives in 2017.
As well as Eurostar the walk to school campaign is backed by Mini Babybal, Specsavers, VolkerHighways, Countrystyle Recycling, Golding Homes, Bexley Council, Medway Council, Kent County Council, Gallagher, 3Rs teacher recruitment and Orbit.
It is not too late for schools wanting to hop on board and start using the green travel initiatives of Super Wow! or walking bus. Visit www.kmwalktoschool.co.uk to find out more.
