Cyclists will be out in force raising money for churches and chapels across east Kent.

The annual Friends of Kent Churches’ sponsored bike ride takes place on Saturday, September 13.

The cyclists will attempt to visit as many churches as possible during the eight-hour ride.

Each of the riders will carry a sponsorship form, which will be stamped at each church to authenticate the journey.

A target of £400,000 has been set by the Friends of Kent Churches, £5,000 higher than last year’s remarkable effort.

Now in its 26th year, the bike ride has gained in popularity down the years. Some people walk a route of their choice.

James Linington, area organiser for the Eastbridge Deanery, will attempt to cycle a circular route from Barham to Kingston, Bishopsbourne, Bridge, Patrixbourne, Bekesbourne, Littlebourne, Ickham, Wickambreaux, Wingham, Goodnestone, Adisham, Womanswold.

He said: “The majority of churches will be open. On a good day I’d hope to do between 12-15 churches.

“Half of the money raised goes to the churches to which local cyclists belong, the other half to the Friends of Kent Churches.”

The ride and walk begins at 10am. Sponsorship forms are available in all churches.

Journeys can begin from any of Kent’s 750 churches.
