The green landscape of Quex Park, Birchington, turned decidedly pink on Sunday as hundreds of women took part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.
Nearly 1,500 people, many of whom came in fancy dress ranging from fairies to superheroes, ran, jogged or walked 5km to raise money for vital research into the disease.
They hope to have raised more than £135,000 between them, with another 750,000 women taking part at Race for Life events across the UK expecting to bring the total to £50million.
Those who took part had a strong breeze to ease them over the finish line, with one woman speeding home in under 20 minutes.
Race organiser Natasha Etienne said: “It was a brilliant day. We had a great turnout and the whole event went without a hitch.
“The women were fantastic; everyone was in a party mood, dancing and enjoying the music and the day was just really good fun.”
The money raised will help fund research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a disease that affects more than one in three people in the UK at some point in their lives.
