Do you know someone who gives up their time week after week to do voluntary work?

The search is on again to find the top volunteers in Kent through the Kent Volunteers Awards for Excellence.

Award winners get cash to donate to their favourite charity or special project, with prize money donated by sponsors, totalling more than £11,000.

The 48 winners and runners up each receive a trophy and certificate plus theatre tickets. All nominees receiving a certificate. The competition has been held for the last eight years.

Several nominations in and around Maidstone have already been received. They include the Thursday Action Group who get involved in all types of conservation tasks over the 10 years since the group formed.

Victor Christian and David Hinchcliffe volunteer with the Kent Association for the Blind, and their activities range from helping clients to administration work.

Husband and wife team Geoff and Mo Neate have supported the Wateringbury Scout Group for more than 12 years and were the driving force behind getting a new scout HQ building in the village. Their efforts have earned them a nomination.

But award organisers want to hear from people who know others who do sterling work in their communities.

Nominations close on Friday, September 19, and forms can be found in libraries, sports and leisure centres and schools.
