HUNDREDS of women and young girls converged on Herne Bay to take part in this year's Race for Life.

Many were running in teams made up of colleagues or friends and family, while others were in ones and twos.

The event is organised by Cancer Research UK and over the past few months many similar runs have taken place all over the country, with more to come over the rest of the summer.

Those taking part are hoping to raise a total of £20 million this year to help pay for work into finding a cure for the disease, which will affect one in three people in the UK at some point in their lives.

Mairi Benson, 35, was the clear winner, running the course in 20 minutes and six seconds and coming in a long way ahead of the rest of the field. Last year she came second.
