A walk to school winner has dreamed up a cool name for the mascot of Silver Blades ice rink.
Lucy Studd, 10, chose the winning name of Percy in a competition to name the penguin mascot of the Silver Blades ice rink.
The youngster, of Shears Green Junior School, Gravesend, and her family received the VIP treatment at the ice rink in Gillingham on Sunday where she collected her prize of a free family ice skating voucher and a packed goody bag.
Lucy’s mum Kerry Furrents said: “Lucy was very excited when she found out she'd won the competition. She has been looking forward to meeting Percy, receiving her goody bag and trying ice skating for the first time!”
Simon Dolby of the KM Charity Team, which organised the contest, said: “We’re delighted to encourage children and their families to be more active and have fun together. I’m sure Lucy will enjoy this wonderful prize.”
Silver Blades supports the KM Charity Team’s award winning green travel services for schools including Walk on Wednesday (WOW) and Active Bug. Last academic year more than 40,000 children used green travel each week, removing 250,000 school run car journeys from the county's roads.
