Eight-year-old James Taylor spent a day at Diggerland after winning the KM Charity Team’s Be the Boss creative writing competition.

Afterwards he said: “I really enjoyed being the boss of Diggerland and when I grow up I want to be the boss full-time.”

Diggerland general manager Steve Biggs will no doubt now spend some sleepless nights sweating over his new competition, but he and the rest of his staff were impressed with James’s can-do attitude.

Steve said: “James did really well. It was nice to take a step back and let someone else take responsibility for a change.

“He did really with the staff – quite intimidating standing in front of 30 them and briefing them.

“Maybe in a few years’ time my job’s in danger.”

Apart from briefing staff at the Medway venue, James spent time in the shop making sure it was fully stocked for the day, checked marketing material, answered emails and telephone calls and – most importantly – test-drove the dodgems and a digger.

James, who is a pupil at Sandwich Junior School, added: “The part of the day I most enjoyed was the digger because I got to tip mud and it was like a mud fountain. I also enjoyed the dodgems.”

The Be the Boss competition runs throughout the year and gives primary school children the chance to spend a day in charge of leading organisations and visitor attractions in Kent.

To win his prize, James had to complete a piece of writing saying which superhero he would most like to walk to school with.
