KM reading initiative for schools Buster’s Book Club has launched a new logo to promote a key aspect of the scheme along with a huge discount to schools signing up for 2016.
The Reading Millionaires’ Club logo highlights the scheme’s aim for all participating schools to collectively notch up a record number of minutes of home reading each academic year.
Buster’s Book Club, created by the charity department at the KM Group with the support of Kent County Council, launched Kent-wide this year with 40 schools and 10,000 pupils taking part. By the end of the summer term the pupils had achieved more than two million minutes of home reading.
The scheme works by setting home reading targets by age group and offering incentives to star readers. A series of inter-class and inter-school reading challenges throughout the year maintains enthusiasm culminating in an annual record attempt. Prizes include readers of the week trophies, book vouchers, tickets to leisure attractions, and special story time sessions.
Buster’s Book Club has made such an impact in Kent schools that organisations are keen to support the scheme, enabling a significant discount to entice schools to sign up for 2016. As a result any school making a booking by December 17 will pay less than half price per class.
Supporters include KCC, Medway Council, Mini Babybel, Specsavers, Orbit South, Golding Vision (part of Golding Homes), Leeds Castle, Circle Housing Russet, and Three R’s Teacher Recruitment.
Simon Dolby of the KM Charity Team which runs Buster’s Book Club said: “It’s going fantastically well. We’ve attracted additional grant support enabling us to reduce the price so that more schools can take part.”
Schools have until Thursday, December 17 to register for Buster’s Book Club and have the proven literacy initiative in place for January 2016.
