A Tonbridge and Malling housing association has joined the final call for entries to the KM Kent Cooks competition for children and young adults.
Enthusiastic cooks aged between six and 19 years have just one more day to submit an online entry. The deadline is tomorrow night (Tuesday, November 3) at midnight.
The annual contest offers youngsters the chance to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience and win top prizes. Finalists will get to create their culinary masterpieces in a professional kitchen during a live Masterchef-style cook-off in a bid to win certificates, goody bags and a share of £500.
Anita Cleugh, assistant director of customer services at Circle Housing Russet, said: “We’re backing this initiative as part of our mission to help local people become financially independent and resilient. We want to support happy and healthy local communities and learning how to prepare healthy meals to a budget is an important skill for life.”
Entrants are required to prepare one or two dishes depending on competition category and upload photographs of their dishes to the kentcooks.co.uk website together with recipe details. The three competition categories are Primary School, Secondary School and Families for adult-and-child pairs.
Kent Cooks is supported by organisations including PaulBabra.co.uk, JC Rook and Sons, Licensing Consultancy Services, Brakes, Mini Babybel, Three R’s Teacher Recruitment, Countrystyle Recycling, Kent Cookery School, East Kent College, Orbit South, S.E. Medical, VooServers, Golding Vision (part of Golding Homes) and Best Western Abbots Barton Hotel.
Finalists will prepare their recipes for the judging panel on November 26 at East Kent College, Broadstairs.
The overall Kent Cooks champion will receive the top prize of £200. Fifty pounds will go to the winning primary school pupil and £150 will be awarded to the top secondary school pupil. The family category winner will take home £100.
