Medway winners set to play legends in charity final

A team of friends are gearing up to test their soccer skills against a team of England legends.

The Liberties travelled from North London to claim victory at the Medway heat of the Legends Cup.

Seven teams took part in the five-a-side competition at Kicks Soccer Centre in Strood on Sunday .

The footballers weathered the wind and the rain to raise cash for cancer charity CLIC Sargent, which provides specialist care for young cancer patients and their families.

Runners-up were Thrills and Skills, also from London.

The Liberties will now go on to play at the final on Sunday, July 27 at England’s former training ground, Bisham Abbey.

They will be testing their dribbling, volleying and goal-scoring skills against a team of ex-pros led by led by former England and Newcastle star Rob Lee.

Joining him in the Legends team will be ex-Arsenal stars Ray Parlour and Nigel Winterburn, goalkeeper David Beasant, and the charismatic Peter Reid.

The Legends are experienced players who between them have played for England 48 times and won 22 major trophies.
