A mother-of-three has broken the female world record for running the entire length of the UK.

An exhausted Mimi Anderson, from Smarden, completed the 840-mile trek in a record-busting 12 days, 15 hours and 46 minutes.

She said: "I cannot believe it. It has taken over a year to organise and now I have done it."

Mrs Anderson, 45, an experienced marathon runner beat the previous record - 12 days, 16 hours and 23 minutes - as she ran from John O’Groats to Land’s End, supported by a four-strong crew.

She has also raised more than £10,000 for a charity that combats anorexia nervosa, a condition from which she once suffered.
