The annual KM Dragon Boat Race organised by the KM Charity Team is expected to raise more than £120,000 for almost 40 good causes.

The event is sold-out to competitors but spectators are welcome to come and watch the fun for free. Savour the ancient traditions of the dragon boat as teams of 11 use paddle power to complete the 250m course in the fastest time.

Back on dry land visitors can enjoy stalls, refreshments whilst cheering on their heroes.

Plus rowing boats and pedal boats will be available all day for hire at Mote Park Watersports Centre. Stuart Clarke, owner of the centre, said: “It is a great day out for charities and we always love to support this event. We are also happy to be able to offer activities for spectators who fancy a trip on the lake in one of our boats throughout the day”

The KM Dragon Boat Race is supported by Kent Reliance and Countrystyle Recycling and the first race will start at 10am. Each team will pit their paddles in three races and the fastest teams will go head to head in the exciting finals at the end of the day.

100% of money raised on the day will go towards participants’ chosen charities and last year the event shattered records for funds accumulated.

Dominic Comins, events manager at the KM Charity Team which organises the race, said: “The Dragon Boat Race is our flagship event which grows each and every year. We are delighted with the volume of racers signed up to take part next month, but if you weren’t able to secure a team and dragon, you can still make great use of the rowing and pedal boats supplied by the Mote Park Watersports Centre!”
