Generous donations have helped offset another bitter blow for a severely disabled young Ramsgate man.
Bad news about a health deterioration for wheelchair-user Wesley Colbran, 28, from Rasmgate, has prompted his mum Jane to step up the appeal for her son.
She needs cash to help rebuild Wesley’s shed in their garden. It was originally bought by her late husband Michael as a special place for their son nine years ago.
Wesley has quadruple cerebral palsy which limits his quality of life but not his enjoyment of music or while the shed was there, his social life.
The original 12x21ft shed has became rotten and had to be dismantled although
the concrete base and wheelchair ramp remain.
Wesley has also just learnt that because his condition has worsened in his right arm, he can no longer self propel himself in his wheelchair, a vital facet of his independence.
A £100 donation by Chris Timberlake from Recycling Waste Paper Merchants of Sandwich started the ball rolling towards a new "Wesley’s Clubhouse".
Since an initial story in the Thanet Extra two more lots of £100 were donated.
O & S Sheds of Garlinge have contacted Mrs Colbran to say although they cannot afford to donate a shed they would be pleased to put it up for free.
Mrs Colbran estimates about £2,200 is needed towards the facility to include double glazing and lagging so it is warm and comfortable..
She said it is a vital facility for Wesley who held weekly discos there, entertained his friends, practised his DJing and listened to music.
Once a month he runs a disco at Blean for people with disabilities from the Canterbury district.
Mrs Colbran said: "This summer without his shed he was really bored. He is something he really needs, it gives him a whole other outlook in life and makes such a difference to him."
She plans to hold a garage sale at their Charing Close home to raise cash and is collecting egg boxes which can be used to line the walls as soundproofing.
