THE new chief executive of Kent Air Ambulance has promised to keep his feet firmly on the ground when it comes to fundraising for the countywide charity.

David Philpott, who has just taken over the role said he was optimistic for the future of the service, despite its financial difficulties over the past few years.

The Marden-based charity needs about £100,000 each month to keep airborne, and receives no funding, but relies on public donations.

Mr Philpott said: "The trustees and staff have worked very hard over the last few months and I do believe that the charity has turned a corner.

"I am confident that our message is getting across to the people of Kent and that message is simple - without their support we could not have a life-saving emergency helicopter in the county."

Mr Philpott has taken on the role after moving from the Essex Air Ambulance, where he was chief executive for two years.
