Bee Gee Robin Gibb serenaded Nicole Dryburgh when the 20-year-old became the 25,000th recipient of The Diana Award.

Nicole, from Seasalter, was at a star-studded ceremony at 11 Downing Street on Tuesday in recognition of her tireless charity work.

Her book The Way I See It, published last year, tells her story after she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at the age of 11, and the problems which followed, including suffering from tumours, a brain haemorrhage and Bells Palsy.

Nicole is in a wheelchair and is deaf and blind, having to use deaf blind sign language to communicate.

In spite of her problems, she has become an active fund-raiser, collecting £45,000 for her favourite charities and is set to raise another £50,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Among the guests at the Downing Street ceremony was former Robin Gibb, who was welcomed in as the award’s first ambassador.

Robin sang Happy Birthday to Nicole, who was 20 on Monday, and to her brother Lee, who celebrated his 23rd birthday on Tuesday.

“It was absolutely amazing, to see a Bee Gee singing Happy Birthday to my children,” said mother Jackie Dryburgh.
