Brave souls will be taking the plunge for charity on Saturday at our abseil.

They will be stepping off the top of the seven-storey Fisher Tower at Canterbury Christ Church University.

The event is in aid of the Canterbury and District branch of the RSPCA, which is fund-raising for an animal centre at Hersden, and the Kent Walking Bus.

The abseil is sponsored by George Wilson, of GW Holdings, who does a lot of work with the animal charity and whose wife, Judy, is patron.

Mr Wilson said: “We’ve befriended stray animals ourselves, particularly cats and we’re big animal lovers.

“We were only too pleased to put our name forward in making sure the new RSPCA centre comes off.”

Radio station kmfm breakfast show presenter Bob Mower is one of those facing his fears to take on the challenge as is Kentish Gazette senior editor Leo Whitlock.

The abseil starts at 9.30am on the campus in North Holmes Road.
