There was a party atmosphere when 2,500 women lined up to take part in Race for Life at Hampton on Sunday.
But behind the smiles and laughter were many sad stories of lost loved ones which was the motivation to take part and raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Event manager Natatsha Etienne described the morning as "absolutely fanastic".
She said: “It may not be the biggest in Kent but for some reason Herne Bay seems the most popular.
“I think people just love the seaside course which is lovely.
"The atmosphere was like on huge party, particularly during the warm-up.
“Last year we raised £142,000 but we are on target for £153,000 this time which is brilliant.”
