A Dover primary has become the latest school to sign up for schools literacy initiative Buster’s Book Club.

Organised by the KM Charity Team, the club uses a spirit of friendly competition to make books cool, and encourages children to read more at home.

Vale View Primary in Dover celebrated signing up for the initiative with a special school assembly.

Its classes will now compete against each other, with a weekly trophy awarded to the one that records the most home-reading minutes.

And the primary will take part in monthly challenges with other schools across Kent for the chance of winning tickets to leisure attractions or visits by celebrity storytellers.

Buster’s Book Club coordinator Kay Devine said: “Everybody at the KM Charity Team is delighted to welcome Vale View to the Buster’s Book Club community.

“The club has such a strong record of motivating young children to read more, and we are sure the school will soon see the dividends of membership in terms of improved literacy engagement and performance among its pupils.”

In the 2018-19 academic year, Buster’s Book Club schools logged more than 10 million home-reading minutes.
