PRINCE Harry has praised the efforts of two ex-servicemen attempting a World Record from Lands End to John O'Groats this Monday.
The Prince had time before his secret deployment to Afghanistan to send his best wishes to Gary Canning, 49, from Bromley, and his companion on their 1,000 mile trek across the country.
Mr Canning will be joined by Greg Mote, 26, from Middlesex, who both aim to complete the course in the fastest time on record - in 28 days while each carrying a 40lbs pack.
In a statement from Prince Harry's secretary, it read: "The Prince wishes you and Gary a successful challenge, and sends his best wishes for the future."
All monies raised will go towards the Royal British Legion and the charity, the Hope Foundation, in Bromley, which helps support those in need in the borough.
Mr Canning, who served in the military, said: “We are really looking forward to the walk and raising the profile of the armed forces as well as for great causes like the Hope Foundation, which runs events for the elderly in Bromley of which many are ex-forces people.”
Prime Minister Gordon Brown, London Mayor Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson MP are also among many politicians, who have sent messages of support to the men.
Mr Johnson said: “I admire your amazing efforts and wish you all the best with your challenge.”
Russell Thompson, fundraising director at the Royal British Legion, said: “The Royal British Legion is delighted that Greg Mote and Gary Canning are organising a World Record Attempt to walk from Land’s End to John O’Groats in the fastest time. Everyone at the Legion wishes Greg and Gray every success.”
