Pupils at a north Kent school have scooped the first prize in a new literacy scheme.
Puma class at St Anselm’s School, Dartford topped the poll in a challenge organised by the KM Charity Team, earning the school a hamper of books. A hundred classes at 10 schools are currently using a pilot initiative called Buster’s Book Club which encourages home reading.
The initiative sets pupils inter-class and inter-school challenges with Puma class being named top for home reading at the first event.
Simon Dolby from the KM Charity Team said: “With 100 classes competing this was always going to be a tough challenge to win. Everyone involved with Buster’s Book Club is delighted at the improved levels of home reading the initiative has delivered so far across the board and for Puma class to win is quite an achievement.”
Buster’s Book Club is organised in partnership with Kent County Council and supported by Orbit South East, Golding Homes and Three Rs recruitment agency.
