Pupils from five schools sang their hearts out to claim top honours in the Kent Walk to School Song Contest.
The annual competition, staged with the support of Independent Music Productions (IMP), challenged schools to sing Reach for the Stars and gave choir masters the option to adapt the lyrics to stress the walk to school theme.
Bromstone Primary School, Thanet was crowned winner with St Mary's Catholic Primary School, Deal the runner-up. Also making the final were St Mary's Island Primary School, Chatham, Blean Primary School, Canterbury and Eastry Primary School near Sandwich.
Contest judge Simon Dolby praised Blean School for the original lyrics in their entry, St Mary’s Island for the choreography and dance moves used by the school’s choir and the percussion performance that was included in Eastry’s session in the IMP recording studio at Canterbury.
Mr Dolby said: "The standard of schools in the final was very high, particularly as each had elements that made them stand out. In the end Bromstone primary school won it by a whisker."
Bromstone Primary School will be invited to perform at the Kent Walk to School Awards in February 2015 as well as Buster's Big Bash in May 2015. The other finalists will also be invited to attend Buster's Big Bash, which is Kent’s annual walk to school celebration and involves several hundred children attempting to break the record for the biggest walk to school crocodile or walking bus. The event includes a range of health and fitness activities including space hopper races, beat the goalie and arts and crafts.
Next year's song contest will use Walking on Sunshine. Schools are encouraged to use lyrics adapted to stress the walk to school message. Visit www.kmcharityteam.co.uk for more information.
