A Judo club has thrown its weight behind a charity campaign.
Rainham Judo Club is the latest organisation to donate cash towards the Embo appeal in aid of CLIC Sargent
The Loughrey family, from St Mary’s Island, Chatham, is raising thousands of pounds for the cancer charity in memory of their daughter Emily Rose, who died last year after a short battle with bowel cancer. She was just 22.
Members of Rainham Judo Club held a quiz night to raise funds for the club but kindly donated almost half the proceeds from the night to CLIC Sargent.
One of the younger members of the club, Natalie Cripse, is friends with Emily’s younger sister Jessy and asked if the club could contribute towards the campaign.
The event was held at The Holy Trinity Church Hall, Twydall on Saturday .
Fourteens teams took part in the quiz, made up of members of the judo club and their friends and family. Emily’s parents Matt and Caroline, along with Emily’s sister Jessy, also formed a team with Natalie.
Caroline said: “We had a great time. It was fantastic for the club to invite us and we wish them all the best with their fund-raising and future move to the Black Lion Leisure Centre.”
The night raised £150 for the club funds and £100 for CLIC Sargent. It included a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.
Quiz master for the night Joa Bamber, who organised the event said: “It was the first time we had ever held a quiz night and it was really good fun. It was hard work but it was worth it.”
Wendy Malkinson, club secretary said: “When Natalie told us about the Loughrey’s appeal we wanted to help in some way and we were happy to split the money from the quiz night.”
