Cheers - thirsty drinkers supped their way to success for charity at the Birchington and Westgate Rotary Club’s beer festival.

Award-winning ales from Gadd’s micro-brewery in Ramsgate plus Shepherd Neame beers were among the popular drinks at the event at the church hall behind All Saints in Birchington.

It was in aid of the Dad’s Quest prostate cancer appeal which is working with Cancer Research and the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust to raise £16,000 for two mobile scanners for us around Thanet.

Dad’s Quest founder Charlie Pepper, whose father died from the illness in March last year, said: “The Rotarians have been really supportive and the festival was a great fun event. They have already held a Strictly Come Dancing style event for us and are planning a sponsored five-mile guided walk on May 9. They will let us know how much they have raised later in the year.”

An old-fashioned tea dance with some dancers sporting Easter bonnets attracted around 80 participants to Hartsdown Technology College at Margate, with music by Robin Howard. It raised £125 for the appeal.

Dad’s Quest has raised almost £4,500 since its launch. The appeal is supported as the 2009 charity by Isle of Thanet Extra and kmfm for Thanet radio.
